Pierre Dorion

fl. 1780 - 1811

Dorion, Pierre, frontiersman (fl. 1780-1811). Born possibly at St. Louis, he lived among the Yankton Sioux from about 1780, having joined them from St. Louis and Cahokia, Illinois. He was hired by Lewis and Clark as interpreter, and apparently still lived among that people in 1811, having married a Sioux woman and fathered at least one son.
